Jim Boeheim is a college basketball legend who took his well-earned place in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in September of 2005. In 30 years as head coach at his alma mater, Syracuse University, Boeheim has posted an amazing record of 726-253. Two seasons ago, he became just the 18th coach in Division 1 history to reach the 700 win plateau. He ranks fifth among active coaches in winning percentage and sixth in victories. He led the Orange to the national championship in 2003, and appearances in the national title game in 1987 and 1996. He has never had a losing season and has led the Orange into the postseason (NCAA or NIT) in all but one season, including 25 appearances in the NCAA tournament. His teams have won 20 or more games 28 times in his 30 years as head coach. In the history of college basketball, only Dean Smith has more 20-win seasons. In February of 2002, Syracuse University named the Carrier Dome floor “Jim Boeheim Court” in recognition of his many accomplishments. In the fall of 2000, he received Syracuse University’s Arents Award, the school’s highest alumni honor. return to celebrity listing |
