Rice is one of the great hitters in
Red Sox history with career totals of 382 home runs, 1,451 RBI's and a
batting average of .298. Rice was an 8-time all-star and is among the
top five Red Sox hitters all-time in eight offensive categories. Jim hit
20 or more home runs 11 times and drove in 100+ runs eight times. He is
the only player to ever have three straight 35-home run, 200-hit seasons
(1977-79). In 1978, he was the American League's Most Valuable Player
as he led the major leagues with 46 home runs, 139 runs batted in, 15
triples, 406 total bases, 213 hits, and a .600 slugging percentage. He
is the only American League player to attain 400 total bases since 1937
and the only player to lead either league outright in homers, triples,
and RBI's in the same season. In November 1995, Jim was one of the first
