Thurman Thomas "is one of the best all-purpose running backs in the history of the NFL. He was as complete a football player as a football player gets." Those are the words of Marv Levy, the Hall of Famer who coached Thurman with the Buffalo Bills. Thurman was a vital component of the Bills unprecedented run of playing in 4 straight Super Bowls. He is the only player in NFL history to lead the league in total yards from scrimmage for four consecutive seasons. He is one of only three running backs (along with Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith) to rush for more than 1,000 yards in 8 consecutive seasons and one of only three running backs (Walter Payton and Marcus Allen) to have more than 400 career receptions and 10,000 career rushing yards. He finished his career ninth all-time with 12,074 rushing yards and sixth in all-purpose yards (16,532). He was the NFL's Most Valuable Player in 1991 and was voted to 5 Pro Bowls. Thurman is likely to join Coach Levy in the Hall of Fame in 2006 in his first year of eligibility.
